God spoke to me a couple years ago about my ministry through a passage in Ezekiel: “…Our offenses and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away because of them. How then can we live?” (Ezek. 33:10, NIV)
Our churches – and consequently our nation – are wasting away because we’ve lost our sense of right and wrong, biblical and unbiblical. You’ve heard me call this a “Christian worldview.” This worldview is quickly becoming a thing of the past in postmodern America.
George Barna says: “Without a biblical worldview, all the great teaching goes in one ear and out the other. There are no intellectual pegs…in the mind of the individual to hang these truths on. So they just pass through. They don’t stick. They make no difference.”
So Sunday, I will be trying to communicate with folks who may not have the same worldview you and I do. In our discussion of abortion, they just don’t care that the Bible says it is wrong…they’re missing that intellectual peg. So I will be coming at abortion from a different direction. I will use philosophy, science, and ethics to undercut the arguments for abortion.
Three things you can do in preparation:
- Pray…that God will reach the hearts and minds of those from a pro-choice stance and change those hearts and minds. (there’s an ad in the Denton paper today inviting these guests).
- Be prepared on Sunday to welcome these guests into our home. I know you will be friendly and inviting like you always are.
- Bring someone. We can’t change their minds if it is just us gathering on Sundays.
