“When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,” (Luke 2:15–17, NIV84)
Do you see what I see? Do you hear what I hear? I love the message of that song. The night wind sees and hears God’s move…and tells the lamb, who tells the shepherd boy, who tells the mighty king, who in turn tells the people.
God allows us to see, hear, and experience things for a reason. They are important to God’s overall plan and we have a role to play in helping God accomplish that plan.
We’re not responsible to start a move of God. We’re not responsible to make miracles happen. God does those things. We are responsible for one thing: RESPONDING to what God lets us see and hear by going and telling.
We’re responsible for being willing participants in God’s move in our lives. We’re responsible to watch and listen – and then tell others about what we’ve seen and heard.
Evangelism is simply that: Sharing the good news of Jesus with others. The shepherds are great examples of unconventional, everyday evangelists. They saw and heard the angels. They saw the baby. They had NO idea of the full meaning of it all – but that didn’t matter. They understood enough. They had seen an angel army. They recognized that history was being made. So, naturally they excitedly told everyone they met.
I hope you will join us Christmas Eve for our candlelight service (at 5 p.m.)…there will be much to see, hear, and experience together as we worship the Lord.
