What It Means To Be a Christian

Genesis 30:1-2; 50:15-21

Executive Jeff Fairchild, M.Div.

What it takes to become a Christian is different from what it means to be a Christian.

1.    Becoming a Christian

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Roman’s 10:9-10

2.    Being a Christian means trusting and obeying your Commander.

“Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.” 2 Timothy 2:3-4

“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:31-33

3.    Being a Christian means following Jesus as Master.

The life of a disciple: a life of trust and obedience lived consciously to please their master.

Three Questions

  • Will you trust Me that everything I had written in My Bible is true?
  • Will you trust Me that everything I tell you to do is right?
  • Will you follow and obey Me as Master?
