If you went to the trouble to come to church Sunday morning or join us online, it probably means that you have a desire to know a deeper place in God. We all know Christians who really love God but don’t have the joy that attends this deepest intimacy.
So, we take matters into our own hands: We do what is right; we go to church; we give in the offering plate; we try to check off the spiritual boxes. But we wonder why we still feel powerless and empty. This embarrasses us, so we keep it to ourselves – thinking we’re the only ones like this – and we keep trucking along hoping one day it’ll all make sense.
That’s exactly why we need to know the Holy Spirit! He wants to lead us to a new place in God – a place that God has been waiting for us to find for a long time. It’s that place the early Christians found and we read about in the book of Acts – it was the reason they were filled with joy even in persecution – it’s the reason they had the courage to take the gospel to the ends of the earth.
If your desire is to walk through life with Jesus and become more like him, let me introduce you to the Holy Spirit. Not an “it.” He doesn’t just show up at Pentecost. He is a person of the Godhead who wants to help us grow in a fulfilling, exciting, partnership with himself.
