There will be holes in the story – plot twists you can’t follow. Consider the novel, "A Christmas Carol." Dickens begins with “Marley was dead to begin with…This must be distinctly understood or nothing wonderful can come from the story I am going to relate.”
The same’s true of Genesis 1. If we skip Chapter 1, if we don’t accept the creation story, or as the psalmist says, “The earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the LORD;” (Psalm 24:1, CSB) – the wonderful story of love that unfolds in the rest of the book is just as fantastic. It won’t make sense.
“I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.” So begins the Apostles’ Creed. Every major confession of the church begins with the fundamental fact of God: He is our Creator. As with every great artist, He has imbedded His own character into His work. Creation bears “manifold witness” to His goodness.
