Living from the Inside Out

The ethical teaching of the Lord drives us back to the cross. You and I can’t be perfect…but we can be saved. We can have God’s righteousness imputed to us. We can have the Holy Spirit take up residence in us and begin to change us from the inside out. With the Spirit’s help, we can do exactly what Jesus wants us to do – go past the law to the heart behind it.

Scripture References: Matthew 5:17-48, Matthew 6:1-4, Galatians 4:4, James 1:19, Matthew 23:17, John 3:3

From Series: "Lessons from the Mount"

“Blessed are the poor in spirit.” “Consider the lilies of the field.” These are some of Jesus’ most famous sayings – all found in his Sermon on the Mount. From the Beatitudes to the Lord’s Prayer, the sermon is very familiar…maybe too familiar. Perhaps, in our overfamiliarity with the sermon, we’ve missed just how astonishing God really is.
