De Profundis

On the Road

Some of you are in the depths right now. You’re suffering. There are no band aids – no platitudes to help you. But you can say with confidence that if you will call out to the Lord from you place of suffering, he not only will hear your cries, but will respond as his character demands he respond. You can trust in that like you can trust that the sun will come up tomorrow. In fact, you can trust in God more than that. And church – we must remember this together as well. Our nation is in the depths of despair. We are facing judgment from the Almighty God. And like Joseph was by his brothers, the church has been carelessly tossed into a pit. But the bottom has a bottom, and God is here with us. We must continue to pray, to watch, to wait, to hope and invite others to join us. God’s redemption for his church is at hand.

Scripture References: Psalms 130:1-8

From Series: "On the Road"

The Bible begins with a journey. “By faith Abraham…set out for a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tent…he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” (Hebrews 11:8–10, CSB) Abraham never found the place for which his heart longed and his soul yearned while he was alive. Life is a journey. Each oasis we find in the desert ultimately fails to satisfy. We live in tents…but the city we desire remains just out of reach. We’ll going to look at the Psalms in order to investigate what we need to reach that city.
