Dr. Jim Mann - 01/15/2023

The Stability of Place

For years our society has been denouncing the teaching of the church as too limiting. “Get off our backs! Let us live.” In his book Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesterton admitted, church “doctrine and discipline may be walls; but they are walls of a playground…so long as there was a wall around…they could fling themselves into every frantic game and make the place the noisiest of nurseries.” God wants us rooted…in his word, with his people, in a place. It is there we are safe. It is there we discover who and whose we are. It is there we can serve others. As Chesterton points out, it’s that stability that brings joy to life and a song to our hearts.

From Series: "The Power of Place"

We live in an increasingly mobile society. With the advances in technology and the increase in Americans working from home, it’s easier than ever to move, explore new places, and bounce around. But this freedom of movement comes with a cost…we're lonely and unfulfilled, disconnected, and unsatisfied. What is the missing piece? In this sermon series, The Power of Place, Dr. Jim Mann will discusses the counter-cultural idea of staying put and growing roots.
