How many of you would agree that prayer is an important part of the Christian life? If you’re a Kingdom citizen, it may be the case that you don’t pray enough. But for many of us, praying more isn’t the issue. We need to pray more authentically. We need to pray more simply. We need to pray more strategically. We need to pray more specifically. We need to pray more regularly. We need to pray more biblically.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit.” “Consider the lilies of the field.” These are some of Jesus’ most famous sayings – all found in his Sermon on the Mount. From the Beatitudes to the Lord’s Prayer, the sermon is very familiar…maybe too familiar. Perhaps, in our overfamiliarity with the sermon, we’ve missed just how astonishing God really is.
