Calling Gideon

Judges: Broken Heroes

It wasn’t enough for Gideon to build an altar to the One True God…he had to destroy the altars of false gods. We can’t go to church on Sunday and then go home to our idols on Sunday afternoon. God is telling Gideon that he wants the hearts of the people. He will deal with the obvious problems once the people turn their hearts back to him. In the same way, God will help you with your money issues or relationship problems when you first turn to him…put the Lord above all else…and destroy your idols.

From Series: "Judges: Broken Heroes"

After the death of Israel’s great leader, Joshua, Israel was in the land God promised them. “In those days, Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.” In the tumultuous 300 year history described in the book of Judges, a cycle appears and reappears: sin, judgment, salvation…and back to sin. Throughout, God raises men and women as instruments of his salvation – but each hero proves to be broken and flawed, reminding us that only God can provide a perfect savior.
