Election Day

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1, NIV)

Freedom is one of the great themes of the Bible.  Jesus, when announcing his ministry, promised to “proclaim freedom for the prisoners (Luke 4:18 quoting Isa. 61:1).”

Humans are in various types of bondage, and freedom involves liberation from bondage.  In the verse above, Paul is describing how Jesus set us free from the bondage of sin and the law.

Christian freedom differs from political or civil liberty, but they are related.  Paul’s point is if you’ve been set free, why would you not live in that freedom? Why would you not express that freedom? Why would you go back to bondage?

Today is Election Day. You and I have a stewardship responsibility to cast our vote for the men and women we feel will lead our nation toward righteousness.  This freedom is guaranteed by our constitution and has been bought and paid for by the sacrifice of many who have gone before us.  Why would we not want to express that freedom?

Get out and vote!
