Sunday Worship

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2 NIV)

If you run into my wife and me on the square or some other place around town, there’s a good chance we’ll be holding hands. I like holding my wife’s hand and opening doors for her.

But I don’t do it just to show her I love her. She already knows that. I like holding my wife’s hand in public to show the rest of the world how much I love her.

Worship on Sundays is similar. It is a public expression of our private intimacy with God. We don’t only worship on Sundays, of course. Paul reminds us that everything we do is an act of worship. So God already knows how much you love him. When you come to church, you’re joining your church family in worship. You’re letting the rest of the world know how much you love Him.

You can try other ways to show the world you love Jesus…put a “Jesus fish” on your car. Or send one of those “If you love Jesus, forward this email.” Post on Facebook cute stories from Godvine. But the way to do it biblically is corporate worship at church. It is an important part of our relationship with God. Don’t skip it (see Hebrews 10:25)!

I’m looking forward to joining you in worship this week. See you Sunday!
