[Note: This week I will be chronicling the events of Holy Week with a short devotion each day.]
Bethany was astir. People were talking. Why wouldn’t they? After all, not long before Holy Week, Jesus showed the world his power over death by raising his friend Lazarus from a tomb in Bethany. A week before Passover, Mary anointed him there. John tells us:
“Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him.” (John 12:9–11, NIV84)
None of the Gospel writers tell us specifically what Jesus did on Wednesday of Holy Week. But after two exhausting days in Jerusalem, I bet Jesus and his disciples rested and prayed in anticipation of the Passover.

Sometimes you just need a day with family and friends to rest.
